2 People Dead After Truck Accident in Harrisburg

The driver of a semi-truck reportedly fell asleep at the wheel this morning. When he awoke, he laid on the brakes, but it was too late as his truck slammed into several cars, two of which were in a Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot. The entire truck accident was caught on the security cameras mounted on the outside of the building. The video is difficult to watch, but allowed investigators to come to a quick conclusion about the truck driver being responsible for the accident.

Two people were killed and nine others were injured in the accident. The driver of the truck was compliant in providing a drug and alcohol test, but authorities are fairly certain he was not under the influence of anything other than fatigue at the time of the accident. From descriptions given, it was a violent collision that ended with the semi truck’s cab on top of one of the cars in the accident.

Dangerous Stretch of Route 222

The accident occurred where the four lane traffic is condensed into two, typically leading to huge backups during commuter hours. Rear-end collisions are very frequent along this path, many of them resulting in serious injury or even death.

Truck Accidents and Serious Injuries

Semi Trucks, 18-wheelers, or Big Rigs are, by definition, big. Putting that much mass into motion means a lot of momentum that is not easily slowed. When a truck is involved with a car in an accident, the car usually comes out of the accident in worse shape, as you can imagine. Serious injury is usually the result in most car vs. truck accidents.

Why You Should Hire an Injury Attorney After An Accident

If you are injured in a truck accident or a car accident, do not make the mistake of handling your own settlement. Insurance companies do not make money by paying accident settlements, they make money by collecting premiums from their customers. The offer you receive from any insurance company will be one that they are comfortable paying, and may not be the amount you truly deserve for your medical bills, lost wages, or pain & suffering.

Studies have shown that people who hire an attorney to protect their interests after an accident consistently receive a larger settlement amount than those who try to represent themselves.
