Hands Free Or Not, Distracted Driving Is Still An Issue
Many people use hands-free technology in their cars to send text messages, make phone calls, or even control music volume and temperature. While many of these same people would never pick up their phone and send a text while driving, a new study reveals that hands-free technology is not necessarily any safer: distracted driving is still distracted driving.
Drivers Still Looking At Their Phones
According to the recent study released by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, drivers using hands-free technology can be distracted for up to 27 seconds, even if they never take their hands off the wheel. Why is this? The study explains that repeated errors using voice-activated technology makes people look down at their device even when using it in hands-free mode, plus their focus is taken off the road while trying to dial a number or send a text.
Distracted Driving Responsible For Many Serious Car Accident Injuries In Pennsylvania
The bottom-line is that although distracted driving comes in many forms, the result is often the same: a car accident, possibly resulting in a serious injury. Unfortunately, distracted driving causes a countless amount of serious auto accidents around the state of Pennsylvania. Teenage drivers, who are more prone to use their phones while behind the wheel, are the most-common culprits. However, older drivers who are less familiar with the technology can also be distracted and possibly cause a car accident.
