Pedestrian Accidents Are More Common This Time of Year
As everyone knows, the arrival of winter brings with it many risks for those in Central and Eastern PA, including snow and icy conditions. However, one added danger that many are not aware of is increasing darkness. As the days get shorter — especially with the end of daylight savings time in early November — more people spend their commutes in the dark with lower visibility. Naturally, this creates more accidents.
One type of accident that occurs more commonly this time of year than others is pedestrian accidents. This is because more people are walking to-and-from work during the darkness, and often without lights or reflective clothing to help vehicles spot them. Additionally, these pedestrian-vehicle crashes often result in serious injuries or loss of life because the person(s) walking bear the brunt of collisions with heavy cars or trucks.
