Our firm is currently offering free case evaluations to individuals who have suffered the effects of zinc poisoning as a result of using denture creams such as Fixodent® and Poligrip®.
Denture Creams Contain Large Amounts of Zinc
Although a small amount of zinc is part of a balanced diet, excessive zinc can reduce the body’s level of copper, lead to zinc poisoning and can be deadly. Many denture creams, such as Poligrip® and Fixodent®, contain large amounts of zinc, up to 10 times the normal recommended amount. If you or a loved one uses Poligrip®, Fixodent®, or any other brand of denture cream and have suffered from zinc poisoining, please contact our firm as soon as possible.
Since the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not require disclosure of the potential for zinc poisoning on denture creams, most people have no idea that these products contain a potentially dangerous ingredient.
Symptoms of Zinc Poisoning
Excessive levels of zinc can lead to permanent damage if not treated quickly. Symptoms of zinc poisoning can included weakness, numbness, and loss of sensation. Anyone who uses denture cream and notices any of these symptoms should consult a physician immediately.
If left untreated, zinc poisoining can lead to a nerve condition termed neuropathy. Neuropathy is characterized by numbness or tingling in the feet, legs, arms and/or hands. Weakness, inability to move extremities (arms, legs, hands, and feet), pain in the extremities, stumbling or falling, and lack of balance can also occur.
