A driver from Texas fell 35 feet down a ravine after texting: “I need to quit texting because I could die in a car accident and then how would you feel …” Injuries he sustained injured a broken neck, punctured lung, facial fractures, along with other injuries. He was forced to go through physical therapy to learn how to walk, according to news reports and feels lucky to still be alive. “I’m very lucky that I’m not gone forever,” the 21-year-old told KHOU-TV on his last day of a six-month rehabilitation in Houston. “I still have things to do in this world.” He wants to inform others about the dangers of texting and driving. “They just need to understand, don’t do it. Don’t do it. It’s not worth losing your life,” he said. “I went to my grandmother’s funeral not long ago. And I kept thinking, it kept jumping into my head: ‘I’m surprised that’s not me in that casket.’ I came very close to that. To being gone forever.”

Texting while driving has so far been banned 39 states, and Texas is not one of them. Some smaller municipalities and school zones have put texting bans in place. The victim is hoping that other drivers learn from his mistake. “What people have told me is the reason God didn’t keep you away from this Earth is because you have something special to do,” he told a local new station. ” And I believe what is special is that I should tell everyone not to text message and drive.”

As a car accident attorney, I hope he heals quickly from his injuries and others learn from his mistake by avoiding distracted driving and always pulling over to send a text or having a passenger do it for you.
