In a news statement, the manufacturing company Rosa Trailers, in cooperation with and in accordance with the guidelines of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), announced that it is recalling trailers that are equipped with Gunite Automatic Slack Adjusters. Due to improper “knitting” of the housing during the casting process, the housing is potentially not strong enough to deal with loads that the trailers are rated for. If the housing were to collapse or break, it could compromise braking capacity for the trailer or make it pull to one side, resulting in a possible crash hazard. This recall affects trailers that were made from October 10, 2010 through January 31, 2011 and went into effect on January 11, 2012. Rosa will contact owners and replace the slack adjusters free of charge.
