A multi-vehicle car accident in Lancaster County sent two drivers to the hospital with serious injuries late Tuesday afternoon. The wreck happened at about 4:42 p.m. in the 5800 block of Buena Vista Road, just east of Old Mill Road near Gap.
Injured Drivers Taken to Lancaster General
According to state police, excessive speed was the major contributing factor to the crash. Police say 23-year-old Kevin Ferguson was traveling west on Buena Vista Road at high speeds when his car, a 2003 Chevrolet Impala, hit some gravel in the road and lost control. While Ferguson was sliding sideways, he collided with 56-year-old Edward Draves III, of Elverson, who was driving East on Buena Vista Road.
As a result of the violent collision, Ferguson’s Impala spun and flipped onto its side. Draves’ car struck a guard rail on the side of the road, then came to rest in the eastbound lane, near Ferguson’s overturned car. One of the men was ejected from their vehicle during the accident, and both were taken to Lancaster General Hospital. Ferguson is listed in critical condition while Draves is listed as serious.
Police say they Ferguson will be cited for driving too fast for conditions. Although other criminal charges may be pending against Ferguson, the possibility of a civil lawsuit for monetary damages against Ferguson is also a possibility.
