Loophole Closing in PA Workers' Compensation Legislation

House Bill 1846 Passes Unanimously

This post is a follow up to a post we wrote last June regarding Pennsylvania physicians using a loophole in the Workers’ Compensation system that allows work comp doctors to prescribe medications and dispense them without the use of a pharmacy…usually at an inflated price. Pennsylvania workers’ compensation doctors have been enjoying kickbacks from marking up prices for medications that they dispense. House Bill 1846 was introduced to counter this practice, and was recently approved unanimously by the Senate, and the House.

The new legislation is an attempt to lower the rates of Pennsylvania workers’ compensation insurance rates, which are among the highest in the Nation. The hope is that more jobs will be created as a result of lowered workers compensation insurance premiums.
