A Harrisburg PA motorcycle accident resulted in serious injuries to a motorcyclist involved in a chase with police on Wednesday. Some onlookers to the accident told reporters that police should not have chased the motorcycle into the city because of the risk to other drivers and pedestrians.
Are The Police Responsible For This?
According to state police, a trooper attempted to pull the unidentified motorcyclist over on Interstate 81 near the Cameron Street exit at 10:44 a.m on Wednesday because he had an obscured license plate. However, as soon as the trooper tried to initiate the stop, the motorcyclist took off. The trooper then engaged in a pursuit of about a mile, when the motorcyclist slammed into a state constable’s car just north of the intersection of Maclay and North Sixth streets.
Although the constable was not actually involved in the crash, he did maneuver in front of the motorcycle in an attempt to slow him down and allow the trooper to catch up. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, but was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. The accident remains under investigation and criminal charges are still pending.
